2nd Semester

The final day before the week where the second semester will officially start. That is today.

My four-weeks break was quite a...refreshing one.

Nothing much to write though.

Just want to say that I'm highly anticipating this coming semester. Of course, I still have to settle some stuff regarding financial matters. I won't touch that here too much though...some people might be observing what I am writing here.

On to the next semester...!

Sem 1 Over

The semester 1 finals are over...and apparently, I didn't feel so good about it. I mean how can a paper have a question at 30 marks...asked about a page...just small part in the 200 pages of notes. I mean I've been preparing for the exam...in the wrong way...preparing for something only to get something else...!!!!

No mood to blog...ahhhhhh.....watch anime to release tension!!!!!!!!!

Thursday Special - Free Perfume

Unbelievable...I went for a test for which I made preperation just the early morning before it started. Calculus was at 8am...preparation started at 1 am. So I have not that much hope for this test except for at least to pass. Not that this test was highly weighted anyways.

Done with the test, I had to prepare for the BiOrganChem Lab session...where I had to synthesise aspirin and isoamyl acetate. For the first time in my BiOrganChem lab session, I actually had FUN AND finish all steps AND successfully obtained the products. Yes, I've finally gotten the hang on crytallisation...didn't know I had to synthesise a drug - asprin (I'm not a pharmacist...I'm a Molecular Biologist @ Biotechnologist). But when I sealed the cap for my sample vial for submission...it was a moment of triumph for me -especially since this is the only lab where ONLY the individual work is assessed. Seeing those white powdery stuff...and it was really quite a satisfying looking yield...I suppose...1.28 g of aspirin all synthesised by me.

Esterification went well, and I manage to get to the final product...yes...isoamyl acetate.

UNTIL...the very last step as I was filtering it into my sample vial...splash...disaster struck!!

Isoamyl acetate, all over myself...clumsily tumbled the sample vial and drenched myself with it.

Anyways, it was ester...nothing dangerous about the compound involved...although the demonstrators did asked me to  wash the ester off myself.

And darn...how "pleasant" did my body odor go the whole day. I thinked that during the Human Biology Lab session in the afternoon then...I smelled like some guy with the wrong set of tropical perfume.

Sigh...if only more ladies like banana, I might have more luck with them on that day...*actually this was what my demonstrator more or less commented at the end of the BiOrganChem lab.

Odd...Never Dreamt of That Before

Today was the dreaded Thursday...but as I usually skip my Calculus B classes...it's just two labs for me today.

Oddly enough, I woke up late...around 10am...about the time my Biological Organic Chemistry lab usually starts...and it was after I dreamt that I've woke up late for my lab. Strange dream I tell you...vaguely as far as I could remember...I "woke" up in my dream when it was already a few minutes past 10am...a dream in a dream, waking up into another dream. So in the" awakened" dream I decided to skip the lab...and also skip the Human Bio lab later in the dream's arvo. Later, I really woke up when there's this loud song coming....from my real phone...alarm. Really waking up this time...it was only 10 to 9am. Still tired and sleepy I dozed off until around the time 10 am...yes, a dream came true. Only this time...I rush for my shower...and off I went to the lab. Considering I woke up at exactly...yes exactly 10 am...I arrive at my lab about 12  minutes later...all shower, preparation time included.

And for the first time in my Biorgachem, I was not the last to go back...as I managed to finish all the procedures...but the experiment was still a fail...I small mistake caused no recrystallisation of the product. Luckily, my demonstrator understood that this could be due to the presence of water ...which unfortunately ruined the whole experiment...but he kindly allowed me to just write and explain why it did not crystallised.

Later that after...HB lab. I was like...argh another lab...but this week's topic was kinda interesting. Yes, the topic was "Reproduction"...I was excited...not "physically" but more or less felt the rush to complete all the questions in time. Of course, that was the first part of the lab.

The second part was where it got physical, literally... Hmm, that was the first time I've seen real life genitals that did not satisfy the following criteria:
(1)A child's.
(2) My mum's (face it, everyone's seen their mum's - unless you came via Caesarean) or sisters', or any other relatives'.
(3) From prawns -digital and online.
(4) Mine

However, it was kinda surreal...as it did not satisfy this last most important criteria..
(5) Alive and intact.

Body parts, sectioned and dissected...luckily those were plastinated ones. I go to see everything inside...the pussy, the womb...the testes, prostate, penis cut by half...urgh...

And as I thought that was the last, the class had to go to the wet lab...aka the "morgue". Real dead people are stored here to be dissected or sectioned...it had this weird smell in the area that sort of sticks in your nose...

As I enter the dissecting room, there...in the middle of the room...something....underneath a cover on a "dissecting trolley"...the smell was becoming quite overwhelming...my throat was dry...

Luckily the gloves ran out...I don't have to do the handling...ha ha...(only to regret this later since it was my last chance of handling real human material-I'm not taking Human Bio next semester)

The demonstrator asked whether there were any fainters in class...one girl...(oddly very familiar girl...considering she's just in the class for a replacement session) raised her hands up...She had this really terrified looks on her face. but she was strong...I was strong too, although the smell was getting nauseating. When the hidden body was reveal...actually several bodies...several pelvic regions. They were all...I don't know...juicy...looked fresh. To my surprise, they were just like the plastinated version...I was expecting something more bloody.

Haha...so much for a terrifying Thursday. The class ended and so was my day...guess I've never dreamt about such Thursdays before...it was fun.

However...next Thursday...Calculus B test 3, Biorgachem Lab 4 and HB embryology. One hectic day I should say....

Hey you, want to connect with me...

Unfortunately, ever since moving into a new apartment, I have not been connecting MY laptop to the Internet up till I am writing this post. Yeah, the apartment has no Internet connection to begin with. So my housemate had to apply for one...only for the application to be mishandled by those handling the application at some company which shall not be named.

Ah...imagine almost one month of disconnection from the Internet...something not thought of eversince...two years ago.  My laptop and I were crying..."UPDATE"!! Literally...(you know...those security warnings and reminders were really bugging me all the time.)

Anyways, time to give her some time to connect to the "other world" and download whatever she wanted. I can't update much due to time constraints...

Darn I really wish I had time to post about my Albany autumn trip...

Well then, peace and out...

If you wake up with a full bladder, you know it is...

Waking up this morning was quite a pain...well, it was quite heavy. I was so reluctant to leave the comfort of bed.I have several things to do today. I must ensure that there will be at least SOME progress in my Biology lab report. And then, hmm, study.

But I don't know, I'm feeling quite lazy today. This is quite a problem...I suspect it must have something with the weather all night.

Let me tell something about sleeping in a room with the aircon set at 16 degrees C all night. The morning after that would have me waking up heavily, nose and extremities all cramp and cold and a bladder almost bursting with ~well, you know. This shift of season from summer to autumn, is all to blame for it...well you know weather in the day can be mildly warm (around low 20's C - unlike summer's 30+ C) but at night, we're talking about very low temperature's here.

All the aircon temperature I've had before would pale in comparison to what I've had last night.

But Google did not really show it in real time as well as the weather record of the night.

But this shows how the temperature had dropped throughout the night. By the time I took the screenshot, it has slightly improved.

Haha...my first experience of Autumn (in a more obvious one) and the first below 10 degrees Celcius experience outside a fridge.

At least at the time I am typing in this post, the temperature have improved...albeit still under the minimum normal aircon temperature we have back in the homeland. Still under 16 C.

An important question though, if autumn is like shivering cold...I don't know what will my first REAL winter would be like...Hmm, must eat more...gain more fat...

Just as it went tougher...

At the beginning of this week, my first set of assignments (Uni works for real...) cam rolling in. First it was Human Biology-an essay, more of a research essay like ESLS Investigation. In will be due in about 5 weeks so no worries yet...YET.

Next came the lab report for Core Concept in Biology...this is the most urgent one I have to do since it is due in two weeks. Not to mention there's a test for CCB the coming week. Argh...getting busier.

This morning, I had my Calculus test...I was so anxious...you know when you skip the class so often and rely online lecture recordings...your confidence would sort of be...quite less than those who have attended the lectures in person. I was not quite prepared...last minute work...

As the test started...I was stunned...

~~~~
um...
yeah...?
WTF...this is easier than the Add Math that I did in High School...
Schmoof...!!!
I finished it so fast...as my confidence rised perhaps as fast as the world economy is dropping.
Too confident...
Due to some careless mistakes, the maximum I marks I can get now is 9.5 out of 10...grr...just realized at the last minute...and guess what, they had to collect the papers from my row first.
~~~~~~~

Anyways, another lab today and I have to remind myself that my assignment for CalMaeth is due tomorrow...must submit online.

Now if I could just get a grasp of what Biological Organic Chemistry is all about as I'm severely, deeply lost for the unit. I'll have to read up chemistry this weekend. O wait, must prepare for CBB test next week...

**Tired...not enough sleep...and the daylight saving  as well as the incoming autumn are killing me...
